What are wedding styles? - Photographer edition
A common question I get asked is what is a photographer’s wedding style?
Well, a photographer’s style is the way your wedding day photos will look once all is said and done. As such, there are two important aspects that make up a photographer’s style.
Is how the wedding photographer will capture your day.
My favourite is a formal photographer. This is where they organize the poses for you and make sure the room is clear and clean and the images perfect.
Or I also love journalistic style. And this is where they're more or less, a fly on the wall, and they capture the moments, the mess and the beauty in everything.
Is the way they edit. A good wedding photographer would have developed their own style of editing. But the most prominent styles are:
Dark and moody - This is where the overall image is a bit darker. There are usually more shadows and depth to the photo. And that is what causes the moody look. Usually shot in darker area’s / cloudy days.
Light and airy - where the overall image is brighter, usually shot in bight areas or direct sunlight. And there are fewer shadows and can give more of an airy look.
There are many styles of photography. But these are just like two of my favourites. And I think a good photographer will blend these areas, to create their own style.
Personally, I like bright colours and focusing on capturing emotions, but I still will take the time to make sure the pillows and water bottles are out of the photo.
So do a bit of research and see what sort of style you prefer. And as always if you're looking for a wedding photographer, I would love and be so honoured to capture your story in your day.
All my best,
Michaela
